Next year a tournament in the 500 category will be held in Munich for the first time. The organizers face exciting challenges.

How long will the MTTC Iphitos continue to play on this center court?
Michael Kohlmann, the Head of Men’s Tennis at the German Tennis Association, has a broad planning horizon. Kohlmann is already telling us that the first edition of the Munich tournament at the 500 level will take place right in the middle of the Bavarian Easter holidays. Which of course will have no influence on what was a constant topic in the tournament week that just ended: the weather.
At the final press conference, Dr. Fabian Tross, the chairman of the MTTC Iphitos, however, has an interesting remark ready: A meteorological report was commissioned a few years ago, which basically says that it makes no difference whether the tournament takes place in mid-April or early May . Which also applies to this year: In the week before the International Bavarian Tennis Championships, you could easily spend the days in a T-shirt and shorts.
Zverev will remain the driving force
The layout of the sophisticated club in the north of Munich will change; a temporary center court will be built in front of the clubhouse. Sooner or later the existing largest court will be sacrificed, but probably only when a completely new stadium is built. By 2027 at the latest.
And the field of players? Will the upgrade change anything? Alexander Zverev will remain the big draw, but on the other hand, the competition from Barcelona alone is great due to the weather. With a few exceptions, the Spaniards and South Americans are drawn to Catalonia; perhaps a few Americans will follow the example of Taylor Fritz, who came within a whisker of leaving with a product from Munich car production.
Everything is open, you can tell those responsible for the BMW Open are looking forward to it. Also because you know that you can still count on the title sponsor. Easter 2025 can come.
