Evenepoel, Vingegaard and Roglic involved in a serious fall in Itzulia | Cycling | Sports

A catastrophic fall in which the main favorites to win the Itzulia were involved completely distorted the race, which was neutralized for several minutes due to the seriousness of the situation. The last winner of the Tour, Jonas Vingegaard, the leader of the race, left on a stretcher; Primoz Roglic, and the second in the General, Remco Evenepoel, along with half a dozen other cyclists, were also injured. All of them fell in a right curve on the descent from the Olaeta pass, 32 kilometers from the end of the stage in Legutio.

A bad line by several cyclists in unison, at very high speed, caused them to slide into the ditch. Some fell into a cement ditch, others were left lying on the grass of the nearby forest, and the luckiest ones saved their fall at the last moment. At first it seemed that it was the Eritrean Lidl Trek runner, Natnael Tesfazion, who caused the fall, but aerial images allowed us to observe how Remco Evenepoel, who was traveling in front of him, left the road and miraculously avoided the rocks and trees. that he had on the road as he rolled to a battered stop. He had to retire. Mikel Landa, who led the peloton, saved the fall.

In those same images it can be seen that, a few meters behind, Jonas Vingegaard also left the road, almost at the same moment, crossed over the ditch and remained motionless on the ground. He was evacuated by ambulance, with a collar on his neck and with what looked like an oxygen cylinder at his side. Roglic, who at least was still standing, also got into his team car.
