Wind, rain and cold wipe out Napoli’s last hopes of a comeback. Another defeat arrives in Empoli which rewards Nicola’s team (1-0) in search of safety points and throws the Italian champions into the deepest crisis. Not even the presence of De Laurentiis was needed this time: Napoli is just a distant memory in time and its audience sings indignantly against the former Italian heroes. Very heavy climate one month after the end of a nightmare season.

At the first lunge Empoli passes. Natan comes out empty on the wing, Gyasi stands out for Fazzini who gives him the ball back in depth, soft cross for Cerri who feeds Di Lorenzo’s head and scores the 1-0. And in the 8th minute Cerri again misses the target with his header. The Tuscan center forward (19′) is then forced to come off due to a muscle problem: Niang comes on. To witness Napoli’s first shot on goal, you have to wait until the 31st minute, with Osimhen controlling the ball on the fly and hitting the ball on the central goal. Napoli are non-paying spectators, Empoli arrive first on every ball and do what they want in the fields leading to Meret. In the 35th minute, a deadly restart by Niang who skips Juan Jesus and serves Cambiaghi: a left foot that hits the outside post. At half-time Napoli were once again inundated with boos.

Calzona leaves an embarrassing Natan in the locker room, who had regained a starting shirt due to Mazzocchi’s nocturnal indisposition (intestinal flu): yet the former Salernitana player is thrown into the fray anyway, due to yet another failure from the Brazilian. Mazzocchi enters the match well, immediately dishing out a nice cross which, however, finds no friendly deflections. Juan Jesus has a good opportunity in the fray but is blocked, then Kvara (22′) calls Caprile to make a nice clearance in the corner. Now, at least, there is a game. Calzona shows courage: Kvara and Politano out, Ngonge and Raspasori in, desperately looking for a spark coming off the bench. But the changes have no effect, rather only more confusion. The Neapolitan people continue to protest and call for “Spring” on the pitch. ‘We still have five days to go, then it will be a revolution. Empoli smiles: three fundamental points and +4 from third to last place. We still have to fight, but the spirit is the right one.
