Emotional intelligence, the experiment against bullying and cyberbullying presented in Rome – Football

Countering bullying and all deviant online conduct, including revenge porn, cyberstalking and sexting. With this objective, Roma Capitale, in synergy with the Ministry of Education and Merit, has given the green light to the protocol developed by the Technical Table on Bullying and Cyberbullying: emotional literacy becomes a subject to be brought to the school desks of the childhood, primary and secondary schools. From schools to the youth sports sector, the transition is marked by the National Amateur League which, representing the largest component of the FIGC, will include it in the training realities of the green rectangle.

TRAINING STARTS – We start in September with fifteen primary (or nursery) and lower secondary schools and as many amateur sports associations. A manual and various e-learning modules will be made available to permanent teachers and qualified Federcalcio technicians. From October the teachers will begin active experimentation in the classes following the techniques learned.

THE APPLICATION OF THE PROTOCOL – Interaction and sharing are the driving elements of this new school subject. To give some examples, circle time, or divided moments of the day where good and bad experiences are shared, and the haptic poster posted outside the classroom, where each student, at the sound of the bell, will have to choose which greeting to give to their teacher , whether a hug, a handshake or a non-contact dance. This protocol will therefore serve both the teacher to better understand the emotional life of their students and the latter to share with the class group many things about their lives that would otherwise be put aside. “The objective of the psycho-pedagogical manual is to improve students’ emotional and social skills, enhancing their mentalization and empathy skills”, declares the prof. Aldo Grauso, coordinator of the Technical Table.

SCIENTIFIC SKILLS – The scientific team, which includes criminologist Roberta Bruzzone, is made up of university professors specialized in different sectors. A multidisciplinary training that finds its range of action in child psychology in the systemic relational field and in eating disorders, up to calling into play skills in the sector of social deviance, criminology and sports psychology. “In our vision – explains Grauso – any violent, deviant or self-destructive event of our children finds its roots in childhood emotional illiteracy. This year we will therefore train the chosen teachers and next year the protocol will be activated directly on the children, with the involvement of the parents. We hope that this experimentation will become a real support for children and adolescents, so that they are able to recognize emotions, manage them and translate them verbally in a constructive way”.
