Emma Raducanu, number 303 in the world, continues to add wins and gain minutes on the track on the circuit, wanting to recover those great feelings she had in her day. The young British woman stood out this weekend in the Billie Jean King Cup, in which she qualified the United Kingdom to the final phase.
“It has been incredible to be inside that stadium,” says the British woman, referring to Philippe Chatrier. “Playing at Arthur Ashe was something similar, especially when everyone is against you. Honestly, I wasn’t bothered by the crowd or the noise. That doesn’t bother me, it’s probably one of my strong points,” explains Emma to The Telegraph, who became the protagonist of the Billie Jean King Cup tie against France.
His relationship with clay
“My last heat was two years ago, it’s fantastic to see how far I’ve come in many ways. Without a doubt, I have improved, because I feel that I am playing at the best level of tennis of my career and my life,” says Raducanu, who has gained a lot of confidence by starting the clay court tour with the United Kingdom team. “The truth is that I am enjoying it. I feel like my movements have always gone well on this surface, it was more about my patience and my fitness to stay in the long rallies and build the points.”
Her record of results is full of ups and downs, although the confidence with which she begins on clay is, without a doubt, encouraging: “My calm has been one of my strong points,” says Emma, referring to her tranquility in moments important. “Obviously doing that physically and emotionally takes a lot, but I’m glad we were able to do it this weekend. In the games I have lost, I was not 100%. Now I have to play every game at this level.”
With these two victories at the Philippe Chatrier, Emma now heads to WTA Stuttgart 2024, in which she will face a difficult debut against Angelique Kerber. Last year, the British fell in the first round, so she has no points to lose. With the good pace with which she arrives, everything she can win in Germany will be positive for the next events.
