Embracing the Olympic Spirit: A Recap of the Opening Ceremony and Athlete Encounters at Bordeaux Youth Sports Event

On the basketball courts, these two days began with the traditional opening ceremony. The opportunity for Claire Barthoux, from the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Gironde (CDOS33) to underline the importance of fair play, perseverance and sportsmanship at the heart of the event. A presentation followed by a reading of the Olympic oath by two students, representing the promise of each athlete to respect the rules and values ​​of the Games.

Mid-morning, the Olympic anthem sounds. The parade of continents can thus begin. In accordance with tradition, the African continent had the honor of leading the procession. The young athletes, accompanied by a torch bearer, walk with pride around the athletics track. A symbolic stroll. Once the presentation was made, it was time for the games and workshops where various Olympic and Paralympic sports were highlighted. A way also to explore the rich Bordeaux heritage, linking history, culture and sport.

The schoolchildren present also had the opportunity to meet Olympic and Paralympic athletes and discuss their experiences with them.
