A week after the defeat at Karlsruher SC, FC St. Pauli suffered another bitter setback in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. With the 3:4 (1:0) at home against SV Elversberg, St. Pauli lost the league lead to Holstein Kiel.
Johannes Eggestein (39th), Marcel Hartel (69th) and Jackson Irvine (90th + 2) scored for the hosts, Maurice Neubauer (52nd), Joseph Boyamba (70th), Paul Wanner (81st) and Hugo Vandermersch (83.) scored the goals for the strong newcomers.

St. Pauli is now only five points ahead of the in-form Fortuna from Düsseldorf in the relegation zone.
St. Pauli’s goalkeeper Vasilj prevents an early deficit
The Hamburg team had a hard time from the start. The newcomer from Elversberg, who had recently weakened a bit, had several good opportunities to score, which the strong Hamburg keeper Nikola Vasilj brilliantly defused.
Elversberg’s wealth of chances (11:5 shots on goal in the first half) then took revenge from a standard shortly before the break. Eric Smith took a corner to the near post, where Eggestein scored from close range to give the team a lucky half-time lead.
Elversberg strikes back immediately
