A lot was announced, little was shown: Eintracht still fell short of expectations after losing 3-0 in Stuttgart and is fighting to avoid losing sixth place. But the competition is already lurking.

And again there are many words that now sound like slogans for perseverance at Eintracht Frankfurt. Which raises great doubts. Which have to be questioned more and more after the next devastating result. “We,” said defense chief Robin Koch after the dismal 3-0 defeat at third-placed VfB Stuttgart, “have to make sure we get the points – especially now against our direct rivals Augsburg for sixth place, we have to score points.”

That sounded like a cry for help. His boss, coach Dino Toppmöller, said with regard to the important home game next Friday (8.30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on DAZN): “The full focus” of this encounter now applies. “If we do it like we did in the second half against Stuttgart, we can pose problems for every opponent. Then I won’t be afraid and anxious.” Also sounded like whistling in the forest. And goalkeeper Kevin Trapp said that Frankfurt would now have to “make it difficult for Augsburg with a certain amount of aggression”. But do words actually become actions?
