Draymond Green impressed by Victor Wembanyama
Even with Wembanyama on the field, Spurs have a negative net rating. However, since the top pick was moved to the five in mid-December, the Texans have a defensive rating of 110.1 when Wemby is on the field, and without him it is 117.9. For comparison: There is currently only one team in the NBA that tops this value over the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves with Rudy Gobert (107.8).
There are definitely arguments for Wembanyama, who also clearly leads the NBA in blocks (3.5 per game). The Frenchman has already blocked at least five attempts 22 times this season, and against Denver he recorded nine rejections after his block triple-double in Toronto (10 BLK), which Green found extremely impressive.
“That was against the Denver Nuggets, the best team in the NBA! I have no idea what lab created him, but I have to create a son like that because that kid is just incredible.” Wembanyam should at least win one award: Rookie of the Year, where the 20-year-old has been able to pull away from Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren in recent weeks and months.
