Dominic Thiem, who has now slipped into the main draw without a wildcard, will meet a qualifier at the ATP250 tournament in Munich.

This resulted in the draw for the clay court tournament worth 651,865 euros. Should the ex-world number three prevail, he will have to deal with the US American Taylor Fritz, who is number 3.

Also in the main competition is Jurij Rodionov, who was in the semi-finals at the Challenger in Madrid on Saturday. The Lower Austrian will play against the Australian Aleksandar Vukic for the third time in the first round. So far there has been one win for both at Challenger level. If Rodionov overcomes this hurdle, he will have the top seed Alexander Zverev as his opponent. Holger Rune (DEN-2) is a second top ten player at the BMW Open.

Thiem is hoping for his second victory this year in a match on the ATP Tour in Munich. So far he has only managed this in Estoril, last week he failed in the first qualifying round in Monte Carlo. The former US Open winner is competing in Bavaria for the fourth time; the 2016 final is his outstanding result there. Rodionov is taking part in the main competition in Munich for the first time.
