Discovering New York City: A Look into the Life of Isaiah Hartenstein

Follow us on:

New York City is an incredible city. I’ve been living here for two years and I keep discovering new things that fascinate me. This city never sleeps, the colorful lights never go out. People in New York are crazy about sports, they love basketball and American football.

When I’m out on the street, I’m often recognized and spoken to and asked for an autograph. This is something very special every time.

Isaiah Hartenstein: The quiet guy

I live just outside the city in White Plains to the north, where the New York Knicks have their training facility. From there it’s about an hour’s drive to Madison Square Garden, where our team plays in the NBA.

When there are no sporting events scheduled, large concerts regularly take place in the arena. Sometimes I visit one, otherwise I’m the quieter type who sometimes stays at home. I don’t go shopping in the city that often because it’s difficult to find clothes and shoes for me in stores at 2.13 meters tall.

Where a Knicks basketball player goes to eat

I really enjoy eating in the excellent restaurants in New York. I can particularly recommend the “Catch Steak” on 9th Avenue. There is sushi and top steaks here. Prices for the steaks range from $59 for a boneless ribeye to $225 for a prime tomahawk.

Otherwise, I love La Esquina, a Mexican restaurant on 55th Street. The food there is a little cheaper at $20, but still delicious. You can get tacos, bowls and great desserts there. Sometimes I treat myself to a little tequila when I’m free. But otherwise I don’t drink alcohol at all.

If you’re in New York, you definitely have to see the 541.3 meter high One World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, which is right next to Ground Zero, where the old World Trade Center stood until September 11, 2001.

Isaiah Hartenstein: “I prefer being at home with us”

The SUMMIT One Vanderbilt in the heart of the city is also highly recommended. Here you have a sensational view of the entire city from a height of over 400 meters. The top two floors are completely mirrored and decorated with silver balloons. There is a bar on the roof terrace where you can have a drink and enjoy the sunset. Plus, the Bronx is always worth a visit with its hip-hop culture.

When I’m free, I sometimes go to Central Park with my wife and our dog, I can relax here. But my favorite place is at home in White Plains, where there is a lot of forest and a dam. You’re most likely to find me walking with my French bull mastiff at Kensico Reservoir or Rye Lake.
