The men’s professional basketball B3 league completed its regular season on the 9th, with Tachikawa Dice (Tachikawa City, Tokyo) and Tokyo Hachioji Beat Trains (Hachioji City) both missing out on the top eight teams in the playoffs. Tachikawa Dice was tied for 8th place in terms of winning percentage, but was left in tears as he was unable to score one point in his match results. (Okamoto Futoshi)

The final results of this regular season, which began last October, were Tachikawa Dice’s 27 wins, 25 losses, and 9th place out of all 18 teams. Tokyo Hachioji Beat Trains were in 12th place with 20 wins and 32 losses.

The B3 League is the third division of Japan’s top professional basketball league, the B League. Last season, a playoff was introduced between the eight teams with the top winning percentage in the regular season, and both teams were aiming to advance for the first time.

Tachikawa Dice, which is in its second year in the league, has gotten off to a good start with 5 wins and 1 loss in the first 3 rounds (6 games) of the league. After that, they had ups and downs, but steadily racked up wins, and remained in the playoff spot until the final stages.

However, in the final three rounds (6 games), the team stalled with 2 wins and 4 losses. Although they were tied with Shonan United BC (Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, etc.) in terms of winning percentage, they fell to 9th place due to goal difference in head-to-head matches. Direct matches are 2 wins and 2 losses. The goal difference was only 1.

Tachikawa Dice head coach Takeo Mahashi commented, “Even though we felt the team’s growth, we missed the playoffs by one point. It was a season where we felt the toughness of competition.”

Tokyo Hachioji Beat Trains also performed well in the early stages, but suffered seven consecutive losses in the final stages and fell out of contention for a playoff spot.

Among Tokyo teams, Tokyo United Basketball Club (Koto Ward) advanced to the playoffs in 7th place. Earth Friends Tokyo Z (Ota Ward, etc.) was 10th, and Shinagawa City Basketball Club (Shinagawa Ward) was 13th.
