Diego Turcios: A Talented Salvadoran Judoka Making Waves in the Sports World

Diego Turcios Salvadoran athlete, member of the Salvadoran Judo Federation and part of Team ESA, was born on September 22, 1992 in Ilobasco, and has been practicing this sport since he was 11 years old.

The judoka competes in the 81 kilogram category, and is ranked 84th in the world ranking. At 1.75 meters tall, Juan Diego has great sporting achievements.

His hobbies include jiu jitsu and CrossFit training, as well as going to the beach to surf.

Ninth place in the Pan American ranking, gold medal in the 2008 Pan American Youth Championship in Argentina, gold in the 2010 and 2013 Central American Games.

In 2013 he won the Silver medal at the Bolivarian Games Trujillo, Peru. He was winner of the “2008 Salvadoran Sports Top Star” Award and first place in the CA and NORCECA Championships, from 2008 to 2013.

In 2014 he won the Silver Medal in the Pan American Cup in Costa Rica and placed fifth in the Pan American Cup in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Sports participations and achievements:

Participant in the Cuban Judo Grand Prix, which brought together 500 athletes from 67 countries in 2016.
Classified in the 81 kilogram category of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Flag bearer chosen for the 2017 Bolivarian Games
Gold medal in the 18th edition of the 2017 Bolivarian Games.
Bronze medal winner in the Central American Championship and the
Caribbean 2017.
In 2018 he won a gold medal in his division during participation in the Liberty Bell Classic Judo Championship.
In 2019 he won second place, winning the silver medal, in the -81 kilogram category at the Pan American Cup held in Panama.
He has an Olympic scholarship in the city of Boston, United States since 2017.
