Malaysian National Team ‘asked’ to panic after being defeated Indonesian National team in the latest FIFA rankings released Thursday (4/4).
In the latest release, Malaysia experienced a decline of six places to 138th in the FIFA rankings, from previously in 132nd position.
Meanwhile, Indonesia received a significant jump by rising eight places to 134th position from 142nd.
Harimau Malaysia got this bad result after losing twice to Oman in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. On the other hand, the Garuda Squad was like a windfall after silencing Vietnam twice.
According to former Malaysian national team player, Azlan Johar, the latest ranking in the FIFA rankings should be an important lesson. Especially in having thorough preparations ahead of official FIFA matches.
“Now we not only need to press the panic button, but everyone needs to realize that we still need to learn about preparation, we need to know about thorough preparation,” said Azlan Johar, quoted from Berita Harian.
“We rest, the other teams work hard. We look at Indonesia, before the World Cup Qualifications they were below us, but suddenly they got up and beat Vietnam, a team whose ranking was better than them,” added Azlan.
In his view, Azlan considers Malaysia’s two defeats to Oman because the players were not fit enough ahead of this important match following a long break after not playing in the Malaysian League.

Azlan Johar asserted that the FIFA ranking will provide benefits for Malaysia in a tournament. One of them will get an opponent with a lower level in the drawing.
