Defeat at Hertha: Rostock staggers towards the 3rd league

As of: April 12, 2024 8:34 p.m

After the immature performance at Hertha BSC, Hansa Rostock is still stuck in the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. The fight against relegation remains a bitter reality. The Hanseatic League lost 0:4 (0:2) on Friday (April 12, 2024).

Palkó Dárdai completed a beautiful move by Herthan to give the hosts the lead (18th minute). As a result, the Berliners remained dominant and made it 2-0 (31st) through Fabian Reese with a hand penalty before the half-time whistle. Dardai made the capital’s victory perfect with his second goal in the second half (59th). Haris Tabakovic’s counterattack goal shortly before the end of the game (87th) underlined the home team’s superiority in the game.

Hertha advances

With the success, Hertha has now moved up to sixth place in the table and can still have slight hopes of playing for promotion to the Bundesliga.

For Rostock the air is getting thinner in the relegation battle. A total of six teams are in the middle of a relegation battle, only VfL Osnabrück is at the bottom of the table and has virtually no hope of staying in the league.

Berlin doesn’t allow the opponent anything in the first half

Hertha got off to a much better start to the game. Haris Tabakovic and Palkó Dardai could have shot the hosts into the lead within the first ten minutes. However, Dardai then took advantage of his next opportunity to score: the attacker headed the chip pass from Marten Winkler unchallenged to take the lead.

The hand penalty, which Reese converted very confidently, was caused by Hansa’s Dennis Dressel, who received a shot from Jonjoe Kenny on the slightly angled forearm.

Rostock better, but Hertha ice cold thanks to double packer Paló Dardai

In the second half of the game, coach Mersad Selimbegović’s visiting team tried to control the ball more and manage the game, and at least there were shots on goal. But John Patrick Strauß and Kai Pröger were unsuccessful.

Hertha was different: the first significant advance by the capital city team immediately brought the preliminary decision. Winkler, this time from the left, placed a precise shot at the penalty spot, where Dardai again celebrated his second goal with a good eye and a bit of luck. The “Hansa-Kogge” never recovered from this blow to the neck. Tabakovic’s confident finish on the counterattack after a precision pass from Ibrahim Maza increased the Swiss’s goal tally to 19.

Hertha has to go to Karlsruhe, Rostock welcomes Magdeburg

Both clubs now have a break until next Sunday. Then Berlin will be a guest at Karlsruher SC (April 21, 2024, 1:30 p.m.). At the same time, Rostock welcomes direct relegation rivals 1. FC Magdeburg.
