Martin Schindler is in the semi-finals of the International Darts Open in Riesa. The German defeated his feared opponent. Thanks to his successes, he can now hope to take part in the World Matchplay. Previously, Gerwyn Price played a fabulous average.

Martin Schindler is in the semi-finals of the International Darts Open in Riesa. “It wasn’t an easy game, I also lost the momentum at times,” said the 27-year-old after his success against Danny Noppert. In the fifth comparison, the German was able to defeat the Dutchman for the first time.

Schindler had worked out a 4:2 lead, but when the score was 4:4 he missed three potentially decisive check darts on double 16 and double 8. In the next leg he missed 126 points on the bullseye to make it 5:5, but then forced the decider after surviving a match dart and, with strong nerves, brought the game over the finish line. The average ended up being 95.92 points. The semi-finals will be at 9:15 p.m. against Englishman Chris Dobey (DAZN live), who won 6-2 against compatriot Ryan Searle with an average of 104.26 points.

“I want to go as far as I can. It continues tonight and it should be at least the final this year,” said Schindler after his smooth 6-1 win over the Dutchman Richard Veenstra. The German, number 24 in the ranking, impressed against Veenstra with a double rate of 60 percent and an average of 97.09 points per shot. He had already indicated his strong form on Saturday in his 6:3 win in the second round against Joe Cullen and scored an average of more than 105 points against the Englishman.

All evidence of the development that “The Wall” has taken. He had already reached the semi-finals on the European Tour at the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich at Easter. At that time he lost to Michael van Gerwen 2:7. That’s not possible this time. The Dutchman skipped the tournament in Saxony. And Luke Humphries, number one in the world rankings and winner in Munich, is no longer there either. After leading 4-2, the world champion lost 4-6 against Stephen Bunting in the round of 16. With the help of the 5,000 spectators, a lot actually seems possible on Sunday evening.

Pietreczo and Clemens out

In addition to Schindler, two other Germans had reached the round of 16 in Riesa. Gabriel Clemens, the German number one, lost 6-0 to Dobey, who played with earplugs, after a disappointing performance. Despite two 180s, the “German Giant” achieved an average score of just 83.35. Should Schindler win the tournament in Riesa, there would be a change in the national ranking.

Reaching the third round was still valuable for Clemens, as he now has a realistic chance of qualifying for the World Matchplay. The Saarlander still has to bridge a gap of 6,250 pounds in prize money in order to make it into the top 32. After his success, Schindler is currently 26th in the ranking and therefore has an excellent chance of playing in the most important tournament after the World Cup.

Ricardo Pietreczko is sure to be in Blackpool from July 13th, although “Pikachu” like Clemens was eliminated in the round of 16. Despite an average of more than 102 points, the German lost 3:6 to Gerwyn Price. The Welshman played the third highest average ever thrown on the European Tour. The statistics ended up with an incredible 115.74 points. “He was always close, so I knew I had to deliver and take advantage of my chances,” said Price, giving his opponent a share in the outstanding performance: “I was in the tunnel.”
