Danish Women’s Badminton Team Faces Setback as Star Player Misses Uber Cup

The Danish women’s national badminton team has to miss out on one of its best players at the upcoming team WC, the Uber Cup.

Women’s singles Mia Blichfeldt, who ranks as the second best Dane in the world rankings, is suffering from a cartilage injury in one of her knees and is forced to take a break in the coming weeks.

This is stated by Badminton Denmark in a press release.

– I am really sorry to miss the Uber Cup, which is always a great experience to be part of, and of course I am also sorry for the injury that has been found.

– At the same time, it’s nice to get clarification on what has been irritating and hurting my knee for a while, so that I can now get the right rehabilitation done and get ready again, says Mia Blichfeldt.

Instead, Amalie Schulz is promoted from being a reserve to being part of the Uber Cup team.

Denmark is in an initial group with South Korea, the USA and Mexico. Despite the resignation from the experienced profile, the objective remains unchanged. That’s what the sports manager at Badminton Denmark, Jens Meibom, says.

– It is a loss for the Uber Cup team, but it is better that the clarification comes now than during the championship. We hope and believe that we still have a team that is strong enough to progress from the group, says Meibom.

The tournament takes place from April 27 to May 5 in Chengdu, China.

The men’s team WC, Thomas Cup, takes place at the same time and place.
