Danish Men’s Singles Dominate at European Badminton Championships: Axelsen, Antonsen, and Gemke Advance to Quarter-Finals

Viktor Axelsen, Anders Antonsen and Rasmus Gemke are all ready for the quarter-finals at the EC in badminton.

The Danish men’s singles continue the safe style at the European Badminton Championships, which are played in Saarbrücken, Germany.

On Thursday, Viktor Axelsen won 21-14, 21-9 over Finnish Kalle Koljonen in the round of 16 of the tournament and thus made it three in a row for the Danish men’s singles.

The Danish world number one showed from the start that he was a level above his Finnish opponent. Axelsen won eight points in a row in the first set, which Koljonen never recovered from.

In the second set, Axelsen took a 7-0 lead, and from there it was a matter of form for the Dane to continue in the tournament.

Rasmus Gemke and Anders Antonsen had both also played their way through from the round of 16 earlier on Thursday.

Gemke easily beat Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi 21-15, 21-11.

Anders Antonsen also made short work and swept his opponent, Dutch Mark Caljouw, off the court in two sets, 21-18, 21-11.

The last men’s singles player, Magnus Johannesen, has the opportunity later on Thursday to complete a perfect day for the Danish men’s singles.

Johannesen plays the round of 16 against Ade Resky Dwicahyo from Azerbaijan.
