Barcelona The TV3 workers have shown today their displeasure at the signing of meteorologist Tomàs Molina by ERC, to go on the list for the European elections. Among other things, the TV3 professionals demand that the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation clarify the conditions that professionals who have been in the political arena must meet once they want to rejoin television. In this way, they want to ensure that his return “does not damage the values of journalistic independence of the house”. In this sense, they also ask that the campaign coverage that is made of Molina “be the same as it would be made of any other candidate”.
The statement of the professional council also argues that the fact that public media workers make the jump to politics contributes to associating TV3 with “certain political and party postulates”. The principles of the CCMA establish that the content produced by the public media must be independent of political and economic power and must respond to public service criteria.
After Molina’s announcement, the CCMA detailed that, as the campaign approaches, Molina will not only not be on screen but won’t even be on TV, as the relevant permits will be taken. Once the elections are held, if he is elected, they expect that the meteorologist will take a leave of absence, as allowed by the company’s work regime.
