It was with a thumbs up and with a discreet smile that Jonas Vingegaard appeared on social networks this Tuesday at the beginning of the afternoon. The Dane was released from Vitoria hospital twelve days after his very violent fall during the Tour of the Basque Country.
“I want to thank all the medical staff for taking such good care of me. I also want to thank everyone for supporting me morally. I received a lot of messages, gifts and drawings. It is heartwarming ! Now it’s time to fully recover,” writes the two-time winner of the Tour de France in a post from his Visma-Lease a Bike team on X.
Good news! A message from Jonas 🍀❤️

The Dane is now launching into a race against time. He must regain sensations if he wants to compete in the Grande Boucle this summer. In his fall, Vingegaard fractured his collarbone, for which he underwent surgery, but also broke ribs and suffered a pulmonary contusion and a pneumothorax.
News concerning him was announced in dribs and drabs in recent days. So much so that even the cyclist’s parents had not been informed of the evolution of their son’s state of health, which had greatly worried them.
In this fall, which shocked many people in the world of cycling, the Belgian Steff Cras thought he would lose his life. Another big name in the peloton, Remco Evenepoel also fell and suffered a fracture of his right collarbone and shoulder blade.
