Badminton Netherlands strives for an environment in which everyone not only feels welcome, but also at ease, pleasant and safe.

This means that we want everyone, regardless of background, to enjoy the sport of badminton. Whether it concerns religion, belief, political preference, race, gender, sexual orientation, cultural background, age or other characteristics. In the “Our Club Is Everyone” program, we support clubs in the field of inclusion and diversity through trajectory guidance and various interventions. How does “Our club belongs to everyone” work? Below you will find more information about the trajectory guidance and the interventions that can be used. The intake can be requested via info@badminton.nl or the local club support person, who will have regular contact with you about this process.

One of the interventions that can be used is The VR experience ‘With Other Eyes’.

The VR experience ‘With Other Eyes’ from Critical Mass is designed to give participants more insight into the experience of others. Through Virtual Reality, participants experience different perspectives and experiences. After this, they discuss important themes such as social exclusion, discrimination and racism. The workshop provides insight into various situations of social exclusion and makes undiscussed prejudices visible. Different target groups are listened to and all kinds of (unconscious) prejudices and stereotyping are discussed.

There are two different VR experiences available. Not only the athletes are discussed, but also the power relations within a club, the locker room culture and the supporters along the line.

The focus is not only on the victim, but also on the perspectives of bystanders. Looking through the eyes of these people encourages participants to think about their own choices in similar situations.

The VR experience is the starting point for open group discussions about social themes within sports, such as transgressive behavior, discriminatory chants and safety within sports. During these group discussions, the translation to your club or team is made in consultation with an experienced discussion leader.

Practical
The experience, including the workshop afterwards, lasts approximately 60-70 minutes in total. A maximum of 12 participants can join.
