The NFL season reached its peak with Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers (25:22 after overtime). The longest Super Bowl in history is now ringing in the offseason.

The task for all teams in the weeks since the Super Bowl is clear: as many construction sites as possible had and must be repaired.

So relaxation and uneventfulness are not on the agenda. The next offseason event is already on the agenda: the draft in Kansas City.

ran shows all appointments (as of April 11, 2024).

NFL offseason 2024: The most important dates up to the first regular season game

February 20th to March 5th: During this period, the individual teams were able to assign their franchise tags and transition tags.

February 27th to March 4th: The Scouting Combine was coming up. The young talents from the college presented themselves at the Lucas Oil Stadium. They demonstrated their skills in various disciplines in order to recommend themselves to NFL scouts and increase their draft value. A total of 321 players were admitted.

March 11th to 13th: During this period, franchises were allowed to negotiate with players who become free agents. Important: The contracts could only be concluded in the new league year.

March 13th: Free agency and therefore the new league year has begun.

March 24th to 27th: The annual NFL owners meeting was held in Orlando, Florida.

1. April: The first training programs began – but only for teams that hired a new head coach after the 2023 season.

15. April: All other teams have started training. The offseason training programs include ten OTA (Organized Team Activities) days and a mandatory minicamp. This is the preparation plan for the 32 teams.

17. April: Teams will have one last opportunity to test and interview draft-eligible players at their facilities. This also includes physical examinations.

19. April: The last day on which restricted free agents (i.e. players whose contracts expire without having completed at least four so-called “accumulated” seasons) are allowed to sign a provisional contract.

24. April: Now players eligible for the draft are no longer allowed to be interviewed, visited, tested or examined anywhere. Video and telephone calls are also prohibited.

24. April: It is also the last day on which a restricted free agent’s former team may exercise their “Right of First Refusal.” This allows the team to match another team’s offer and automatically keep the player.

April 25 to 27: This year’s NFL Draft will take place in Detroit, Michigan. The team order is decided by the preseason placement.

2. May: For the last time, franchises have the opportunity to use the fifth-year options of a first-round pick from the 2021 draft. This means the players would play another year under their rookie contract.

May 3rd to 6th or May 10th to 13th: The teams are allowed to hold mini camps for their rookies on one of the two weekends. These may last a maximum of three days.

13. May: The Rookie Football Development Programs begin. This allows teams to familiarize their rookies with local resources, club culture, history, leadership and expectations.

Mitte Mai: It has already been decided which teams will compete against each other in the coming season. Whether these are home or away games, too. However, the timing of the games is not yet known. The full schedule is expected in mid-May, similar to the previous season.

May 20th to 22nd: Owners, general managers, coaches and team officials come together for the spring meeting.

5. September: The kickoff of the new season will take place at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium. It is not yet known who will compete against the current Super Bowl champions. The potential opponents: Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans.
