Corentin Moutet beats Nuno Borges and reaches the quarter-finals in Bucharest

Corentin Moutet continues his momentum. After disposing of the Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the first round, he beat Nuno Borges (55th in the world) in three sets (6-2, 6-7 [3], 6-2) and 2:36, this Thursday. The two players played a tough game under the gray of Bucharest but victory went to the Frenchman who took advantage of his opponent’s errors to qualify for the quarter-finals. More effective than the Portuguese on the second ball (15/24), the 92nd player in the world continues his great season on clay, his favorite surface.

The 24-year-old left-hander will meet Hungarian Márton Fucsovics in the quarter-finals. The two players have only faced each other once, in January 2022, for a victory for Moutet (6-2, 6-2). The latter is aiming for a new semi-final this season after reaching the last four in the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago (Chile) at the beginning of March.

The storms which fell on Romanian ocher on Thursday caused the postponement of several matches including the duel between Grégoire Barrère and the American Sebastian Korda which should be held this Friday.
