Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto appeared confident and were able to advance to the last 16 of the 2024 Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) in Ningbo, China.
Meanwhile, Fajar/Rian managed to win in the first round of BAC 2024 over the Thai pair Pharanyu Kaosamaang/Worrapol Thongsa-Nga in straight games 21-16, 21-16, Wednesday.
“Today I was able to play smoothly and win. The opponents also play well and don’t die easily. “Meanwhile, we are still adjusting to the shuttlecock we are using while still looking for the touch,” said Rian, quoted from PP PBSI’s brief statement.
“Only today we were able to appear confident from the start. We can control the game. “Throughout the match, we didn’t rush,” he added.
The pair, who were seeded sixth, also admitted that they were not affected by the defeat of their two compatriots, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, in the round of 32 today.
“The defeats of Bagas/Fikri and Leo/Daniel did not affect our performance. We don’t think or be bothered by our colleague’s defeat. “We focus on our own game,” said Rian.

With this, the defending champion of the All England Open will meet the winner of the match between Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han (Taiwan) and Nguyen Dinh Hoang/Tran Dinh Manh (Vietnam) in the round of 16 tomorrow.
So far, Indonesia has secured six places in the second round of BAC 2024. Apart from Fajar/Rian, there are two men’s singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie, as well as women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
Furthermore, there are two mixed doubles pairs, namely Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja who also went further in this championship, which is also the final tournament to collect qualifying points for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
