The Colombian U-17 women’s team qualified for the World Cup of the category that will take place between Wednesday, October 16 and Sunday, November 3, 2024 in the Dominican Republic.
After beating the Ecuadorian team 4-2 in the last duel of the final quadrangular of the tournament, those led by Antioquia coach Carlos Paniagua achieved their place in the World Cup, of which they are the current runners-up.
How was the match?
Boyaca striker Nikol Rojas was carried away by emotion when she scored the fourth goal for the Colombian U-17 National Team against Ecuador. She shouted with excessive euphoria the goal with which the Creole team certified its classification for the World Cup of the category that will be held between October 16 and November 3 of this year in the Dominican Republic.

However, the Colombian Samantha Rodíguez Curubo scored the tying goal for the Colombian National Team in the 71st minute. That score was celebrated with a mixture of happiness and discretion. With the tie, the Venezuelan team was still unclear about its classification for the World Cup because it was third, with three points.
Then he would have to wait for the result of the match between Brazil and Paraguay, to know his fate for the tournament. The goal that was celebrated with great emotion was the one scored in the 73rd minute by Maithé López, which put the Colombian team ahead on the scoreboard again.
However, there was no need to trust, because the Ecuadorians could tie again. Therefore, after Paniagua made a couple of substitutions (boyacense forward Nikol Rojas came on) the attackers came out to press.
They managed to suffocate the Ecuadorian defenses, recover the ball and after a cross ball deep inside the area, Rojas’ right foot arrived, who kicked it bitten and saw how the ball entered slowly, almost asking permission, into the Ecuadorian goal. Nikol let out a cry of World Cup joy.
The victory against the Ecuadorians was the first for the Venezuelan team in the final home run of the South American (previously they had tied with Brazil and Paraguay). With that, they reached 5 points, placed themselves in second place in the standings (behind Brazil, which was first with 7), and achieved their place in the World Cup. Ecuador, which finished third, will also be in the tournament.
Brazil was proclaimed champion of the tournament
The Brazilian team, which was the best team in the South American U-17 that was played in Paraguayan territory, won the tournament title. The Brazilians won five of the seven matches they played.
In the first round they beat Venezuela 2-0, Peru 0-3, and Colombia 4-1, while they tied 0-0 with the Argentine National Team. In the final round they beat Ecuador 4-0 on the first day, tied two goals with the Colombians and won, with a resounding 1-5 against the Paraguayan team in the last match, which was played this Sunday, March 31.
Furthermore, the Brazilian team scored the most goals (celebrated 20 times) and received the least (4) of the four teams that played in the final home run. Soccer players Giovanna Waksman and Juju Harris were the championship’s scorers with five goals each.
