Colombian Men’s Archery Team Makes History with Qualification for Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Continental Americas Archery Qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games concluded this Sunday, April 14 in Medellín with the classification of the Colombian men’s team made up of Santiago Arcila, Jorge Henríquez and Andrés Hernández.

In a very close definition, which took place against the Canadian team, Colombia came back from 0-4 down in the final for gold and for classification, with the recovery of the first arrow, that of Jorge Enríquez, who did not start well, but the chip changed and the team continued on the path to defeat the Americans.

“We all had that excellent feeling, it happened, we made history and we are going with everything for what is to come,” said Jorge Enríquez, while the youngest of the team, Andres Hernández, only 16 years old, acknowledged that “I still haven’t fully processed it, It is the dream of many and now I do not have the words to show how happy I am for what we have done, thank the entire team.”

Likewise, Santiago Arcila, who had already achieved the individual quota and was in charge of closing, commented: “I am quite excited by the excellent work that the group did, very few people have seen me cry and today is the day because it is a goal achieved and we are moving forward with this classification.”

With this classification, Colombia will attend the Olympic Games for the first time with the men’s team, since the last qualifications had been individual with Daniel Pila in Rio 2026 and Daniel Pineda in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020.

Thus, Colombian archery will have four archers in Paris, the three from the men’s team and the women’s individual. In total, to date Colombia has accumulated 48 places for the Paris Olympic Games.
