Club Brugge Storms Back into Title Contention: Pressure Mounts on Anderlecht and Union

Club Brugge seems to be peaking just in time. With a third win in a row, it puts increasing pressure on leaders Anderlecht and Union. “We really like to make the opponents nervous,” Nicky Hayen once smiled.

There was some concern in advance about the appointment of Nicky Hayen, but the interim coach is doing well with Club Brugge so far.

After the draw against Cercle, blue-black recorded three consecutive victories. This means that it not only has the prospect of a European semi-final, but perhaps even of the national title.

Anderlecht and/or Union – who will face each other later – will certainly see Club approaching on Sunday evening.

However, Hayen did not want to say that he was much concerned with that. “Because we just keep working step by step,” said the coach.

“If we think further now, you are doing it wrong. We feel that we are making the other teams nervous. (laugh) We really like to do that. But first we want to secure fourth place and then third.”

You now see that boys are growing beyond themselves and showing the quality for which they were selected.

In any case, Club’s transformation is impressive. After months of doubt, there finally seems to be a collective with a clear plan and confidence on the field.

“Organization is not everything, not nothing, but it is something,” Hayen responded cryptically when asked what exactly he changed.

“The same applies to intensity. But if you put all those components together, you get this whole. Look, I don’t have to teach these boys to play football. There was a bit of confidence missing that we are trying to instill during training. You now see that boys above grow themselves and show the quality for which they were brought in. Then you get a strong whole.”

Magnanimous, Hayen did not forget his predecessor Ronny Deila.

“We must not forget his work,” the coach underlined. “Without his points, we wouldn’t have been here. And not everything was bad, right? There were many good things that we built on. Other things – such as clarity, for example – we introduced. The players started working on that. .”

“You also see that our first win gave everyone a boost. The second one gave us confidence. And before you know it, the entire stadium is ablaze. That may become an important factor in the future.”
