Leading from start to finish, Guerlain Chicherit, associated with Mathieu Baumel, won the first of five special stages (101 km, Grandola-Grandola) of the third round of the World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC) on Wednesday in Portugal. The Overdrive Racing driver was 28” ahead of his teammate Yazeed al-Rajhi and 48” ahead of Lucas Morales (Toyota Gazoo Racing).
12th time for Loeb
Carlos Sainz (Mini X-Raid) finished 5th and Nasser al-Attiyah (Prodrive), 6th. At the wheel of a Taurus T3 (Challenger category), Sébastien Loeb set the 12th time. In the motorbike category, the stage victory went to Tosha Schareina (Honda) who won ahead of Lorenzo Santolino (Sherco) and Skyler Howes (Honda). Adrien Van Beveren (Honda), who received a 12-minute penalty, finished 14th.
