Cuban third baseman Yoán Moncada, of the Chicago White Sox, will miss between three and six months of the current season. Major League Baseball (MLB) due to the injury he suffered in one of his legs during a game against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Cienfuegos native, who has been affected in recent years by physical discomfort, has a strain in his abductor when trying to run to first base, according to a report on the mlb.com website.

“When I was walking down the line I felt like something broke,” said the 28-year-old player after the incident that made him leave the game won by his team with a score of 7-5.
According to the media, Moncada acknowledged that it is the most painful injury of his career. This puts the White Sox in a delicate situation, as he is the third player who has to leave the team for the same reason. Before, it happened with fellow Cuban Luis Robert Jr. (hip flexor) and with Dominican slugger Eloy Jiménez (abductor).
The Chicago franchise, which has a discreet 2-9 record so far this season, has not announced a possible date for Robert’s return, but hopes to have Jiménez for this weekend’s games.
To fill the place left by Moncada, the White Sox called up Cuban outfielder Óscar Luis Colás, who began the season with the Charlotte Knights, a branch at the Triple-A level.

Until the time of the injury, Moncada had a batting average of .282, with three doubles in 11 games. His discomfort has been recurring, since a back injury limited him to 92 games last season. Since 2022 he has had problems with his oblique, quadriceps, hamstring and foot, the outlet recalls.
The player began his MLB experience in 2016 as part of the Boston Red Sox, and a year later he moved to the White Sox, a team with which he signed a five-year, $70 million contract extension. His salary this season is $24 million with a team option of $25 million for 2025.
Moncada and Luis Robert Jr. were part of the group of players contracted by MLB teams that represented the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) in the most recent World Classic. The island team advanced to the semifinal segment, where they lost to the powerful team from the United States.
