Chelsea Look to Build on Thrilling Victory as They Face Sheffield United Next

For Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea, there is almost no time to reflect on the havoc that unfolded on Thursday evening.

The Blues, thanks to two stoppage time goals from Cole Palmer, stunned Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in a seven-goal thriller that will go down as an all-time Premier League classic. Less than 72 hours after the match, Chelsea are once again in action this afternoon (Sunday), as they travel to rock-bottom Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Blades also played on Thursday evening and put in a brave performance at Anfield as they lost 3-1 to league leaders Liverpool. With just 15 points from their first 30 matches, every game between now and the end of the season is essentially a must-win for Chris Wilder’s team.

But for Chelsea, there is no excuse. Thursday felt like a turning point – and Pochettino said that after the game. It is up to this group of young players, who have been consistently inconsistent all season-long, to build on that momentous win against Man United.

With such a short turnaround, Pochettino may look to make some changes to his team. With that being said, Bobby Vincent predicts what lineup the Chelsea head coach will opt for against Sheffield United later this afternoon.

It certainly wasn’t the best evening for Petrovic on Thursday against Man United. Questions were asked over his positioning for Bruno Fernandes’ goal and he could have done better for Alejandro Garnacho’s header in the second-half. Either way, the Serbian is expected to keep his place in goal at Bramall Lane.

Likewise, it was not the best night for Gusto, who was caught out a few times defensively. However, the overall form of the Frenchman means he is one of Chelsea’s most important players and is likely to start against Sheffield United.

Disasi has played more minutes than anyone else in the Chelsea squad this term and is expected to keep his place in the team. The Frenchman’s physicality will be required at Bramall Lane with the Blades looking to get the ball into the box at every given opportunity, whether that be from open play or from a long throw-in.

Chalobah could return to the Chelsea side against Sheffield United after returning to action on Thursday. Benoit Badiashile could make way for the Cobham graduate in Yorkshire as Pochettino rotates his defence once again.

Cucurella was impressive during Thursday’s win against Man United. The Spaniard showed his capabilities defensively and offensively in the victory and is expected to keep his place in the side as Ben Chilwell builds up his fitness behind the scenes.

Caicedo was responsible for United’s first goal a few days ago in what was a disappointing display from the £115million midfielder. However, as has been the case throughout the season, Pochettino trusts the Ecuador international and he is expected to keep his place in the team.

Enzo could have done more on Thursday, but ultimately he played a huge role in the match-winning moment, with the Argentine and Palmer the only ones alert for the seventh goal of the game. The midfielder is likely to start alongside Caicedo in a double pivot at Bramall Lane.

The man of the moment. Five goals in his last two matches. Seven in his last four. He is perhaps the most in-form player in the Premier League at the moment. Palmer is an absolute shoo-in to go again in Yorkshire.

Gallagher started the game against Man United in perfect fashion, with a really well-taken goal on four minutes. He somewhat tailed off afterwards, particularly in the second-half, but it is likely that the Cobham graduate will start once again versus Sheffield United.

Mudryk could well start his third successive Premier League match this afternoon. The Ukrainian was rather quiet against Man United but will be eager to pose more of a threat against the Blades.

There was not too much service for Jackson against Man United but it was a positive display from the striker. He linked the play up well when necessary and is expected to start at Sheffield United.
