The Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks won two finals at the LKSSAA South junior badminton tournament at St. Clair College’s Chatham Campus HealthPlex Thursday.

Chatham-Kent’s Hayden Heinhuis was first in girls’ singles, Ursuline’s Jocalin Hastings was second and Chatham-Kent’s Julia Strevel was third.

Chatham Christian’s Josh Smith was first in boys’ singles, Ursuline’s Sawyer Ferren was second and Ursuline’s Elliot Crow was third.

Chatham-Kent’s Raleigh Provost and Lia Rich won girls’ doubles, Pain Court’s Jadyn Lozon and Kaylene Brophy were second, and Ursuline’s Gisele Das Neves and Mercy Wysman were third.

Ursuline’s Tiago Rolo and Jackson Liberty won boys’ doubles, Pain Court’s Avery Brooks and Carter Cadotte were second, and Ursuline’s Gibson Dunlop and Dacian Pillon-Vandenbogaerde were third.

Pain Court’s Charlie Payne and Kole Tewkesbury won mixed doubles, Ursuline’s Chase Pettipiece and Emma Raspburg were second, and Chatham-Kent’s Ava St. Germain and Simon Hildebrand were third.

The top six in each division go to the LKSSAA championship Thursday, April 18, at the HealthPlex and Ursuline, starting at 3 p.m.

Barnstormers add ex-Padres farmhand

The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers have signed former San Diego Padres minor leaguer Henry Henry, who’s pitched for the Dominican Republic’s national team.

The six-foot-four, 215-pound right-hander spent most of the last three seasons with the San Antonio Missions, a Padres double-A affiliate.

Henry, 25, has a 26-23 record, 10 saves and 4.28 ERA in seven minor league seasons since turning pro in 2016. He’s pitched in 191 games and made 44 starts. He has 400 strikeouts in 448.1 innings.

“We are expecting a huge season from Henry and he may become a Barnstormers fan favourite on the mound quickly,” the team said in a statement.

The Barnstormers make their Intercounty Baseball League debut Friday, May 17, in Brantford. Their home debut is Saturday, May 18, against Kitchener at Fergie Jenkins Field at Rotary Park at 7:05 p.m.

IBL teams can sign four imports and Henry is the Barnstormers’ fourth.

Lancers win title at rugby tournament

Cassandra Delpech scored two tries in the Ursuline Lancers’ 20-0 win over London Laurier in the Western University girls rugby tournament championship game in London Wednesday.

Isabella Gray and Victoria Matteis added one try apiece for the Lancers senior team, which finished with a 4-1 record.

Delpech, Gray, Emmanuella Caleb, Abby Case-Bullard and Sophia Handsor scored in a 25-0 semifinal win over London Medway.

In the preliminary round, Gray scored two tries in a 35-0 win over Medway. Delpech, Handsor, Faith Heyink, Tina Thiessen and Makayla Wilson each had one.

After a 5-0 loss to Laurier, the Lancers beat St. Thomas Parkside 35-0 on two tries by Delpech and one apiece by Gray, Heyink, Case-Bullard, Morgan Smith and Victoria Matteis.

The Lancers junior team went 1-0-2 as Caleb scored one try in each game.

Julianna Deryck also scored in a 10-10 tie with London Catholic Central. Kennedy Sykes had the other try in a 10-0 win over London Clarke Road. Anna Koleosho scored in a 10-10 tie with Woodstock Huron Park.
