Much more football is hardly possible. Lots of goals, changing leads and a lot of technical finesse: Real Madrid and Manchester City are playing a top-class game in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Defending champions Manchester City and record winners Real Madrid have already delivered a football spectacle in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League. At the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, the guests from the Premier League missed out on victory after taking the lead twice on Tuesday evening; in the end the score was 3:3 (1:2). This means that in the second leg on Wednesday next week it remains completely unclear who will advance to the semi-finals.

Both teams played a game that would have been worthy of a final. It went back and forth. Manchester took the lead in the second minute through Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese took a free kick from the left half directly towards the goal, surprising Real’s entire defense.

But the lead only lasted ten minutes. With a double blow in the 12th and 14th minutes with an own goal from Rúben Dias and a goal from Rodrygo, whose shot had been decisively deflected, the Royals were now also in the duel between the highly decorated star coaches Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid) in front.

Dream goal at the end of the game

After the break, the guests hit back and scored two goals again within a short space of time. First Phil Foden equalized (66th), before former RB Leipzig professional Joskos Gvardiol (71st) scored with a remarkable shot to make it 3-2 for Manchester.

The game came to a fitting end. Federico Valverde then equalized for Real with a dream goal after Germany’s former world champion and national team returnee Toni Kroos was substituted for Luka Modric. Valverde nailed the ball into the near corner after a cross from Vinicius Junior, Manchester goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Morena was powerless.

The second leg will take place in Manchester in eight days. The winner of the duel will meet the winner of the quarter-final game Arsenal against Bayern in the semi-finals.
