History

During the Paris Olympic Games, the Champ de Mars stadium will be much more than the “substitute Grand Palais”. For the moment, that is the label by which the stadium is known, since this 10,000 square meter temporary stage hosts different events while the construction of the Grand Palace continues. In 2024, after the completion of the works, the Champ de Mars will remain in place for a few more months to host different sports of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

It was designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. The wooden structure of the stadium, with its harmonious curves and its aesthetics that reflect the Grand Palace, was installed on the Campo de Marte in early 2021 in front of the Military School. Aligned with this esplanade, it integrates perfectly with the urban landscape and thanks to the use of sustainable materials and the structure of the building, the project is in complete harmony with the environmental standards required for Paris 2024.

Created to host sporting, fashion and artistic events, which usually take place in the Nave while the Grand Palace is being renovated, it will also become the setting for cultural events promoted by the cultural organization Meeting of the National Museums – Grand Palace.

Legacy

There will be no trace of this site after the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as it will be dismantled in the European autumn of 2024. However, it may be reused in multiple configurations at another location, yet to be determined.
