Celebrating the Best Young Athletes in the Lüneburg District: A Look at the 2024 Sports Awards Event

(lk) From judo to rope skipping to volleyball – the clubs and schools in the Lüneburg district offer a wide range of sports. Now (April 26, 2024) the best young athletes of the past year were jointly honored by the district of Lüneburg, the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg, the district sports association (KSB), the Sparkasse Lüneburg and the regional newspaper Lüneburg in the auditorium of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.

First district councilor Yvonne Hobro and mayor Christel John were pleased about the award ceremony and emphasized: “What the children and young people achieve in sport is incredible. We can be proud of our athletes in the youth sector!”

At the beginning of the event, moderator Dirk Böge noted how important sport is – and how valuable the honors for special achievements are. Around 280 honorees in more than 20 sports and lots of smiling faces: That is the result of the 2024 sports award. It was not a given that the year was so successful for the young athletes. Behind them lie hard weeks of preparation, long journeys and exciting moments. Some of them train up to 20 hours a week alongside school. And so all the winners could be sure of thunderous applause in the auditorium, which was packed with around 400 people.

Lolle Bo Sandmeister, Jannes Wiethe and the Johanneum football team were honored

Lolle Bo Sandmeister was named Athlete of the Year by MTV Treubund. Her achievements have already attracted nationwide attention. The new national champion sprinted a distance of 60 meters in 7.97 seconds and also won silver over 300 meters. Jannes Wiethe from RSC Lüneburg can be happy about the “Sportsman of the Year” award. The Lüneburger won the everyone’s race at the Hamburg Triathlon, leaving over 1,000 other participants behind. His special thanks went to his trainer, who continues to create his training plans for him.

The football team born in 2011 and 2012 at the Lüneburg Johanneum can now call themselves team of the year 2023. She reached the national final in the DFB School Cup. Your competition in the cup: students from sports boarding schools at FC Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund.
