Celebrating 60 Years of Success: AST Judo Club Anniversary

Last weekend, the AST judo club celebrated its sixtieth anniversary.

For this occasion, not quite like the others, around 70 judokas, all trained at the club, met on Saturday on the immense tatami installed in the large room of the Abel-Minard gymnasium.

Among all these practitioners, some of whom had come from very far away so as not to miss this anniversary, there was Dario Andreoli who, with sixty-one licenses behind him, was one of the pillars of the club whose first days he knew.

“My favorite club”

“I was 16 years old. The club was created following an open-air demonstration carried out by Louis Roche at the avenue Grévin stadium. It was René Gérard, who gave his name to the current dojo, René Dumas, who everyone nicknamed La Plume, and Philippe Camus who then created the club in February 1964.”

The training conditions were Spartan. “We were installed in a premises on rue Vaucorbe (Editor’s note: currently occupied by the billiard club). There were maybe 10 or 12 licensees. The carpet was a tarpaulin with shavings underneath. At first it was okay, but the shavings ended up settling and no longer provided much cushioning. I’m paying for it today. »

Not discouraged however, Dario, buoyed by his good results, very quickly became assistant coach to Louis Roche then black belt in 1967. Passionate, he obtained all the necessary diplomas and officially became a coach.

At the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s, the club experienced its golden age with some 300 members and spread thanks to its branches in Ancy-le-Franc, Lézinnes, Noyers and Chablis.

Dario taught at Tonnerre until 1998 before joining the Héry club. “But this is my favorite club. Of the 70 black belts who have been trained here, 55 were trained by me. »

All these years given to judo have been done voluntarily. Pointing to the judokas concentrated on the giant tatami, he concludes: “For me, my glory is seeing that, happy people on the mat. »
