(Barcelona) The Norwegian Casper Ruud took his revenge against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and won the Barcelona Open in two sets on Sunday.

Ruud triumphed 7-5, 6-3 to secure his first title of the season, after losing his other three finals of the year. He lost to Tsitsipas last week at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
“Honestly, it was worth it,” Ruud said after his victory in Barcelona. Several defeats in the final this year have been difficult. It was disappointing. Every time you make the final it’s a good week so you can’t be too hard on yourself. But this was long awaited. »

Casper Ruud continued the Barcelona tradition of jumping into the pool after his victory.
Ranked seventh in the world, Tsitsipas easily won in the final in Monte-Carlo, but Ruud took revenge by converting three of his six break chances.
“I am very happy to do it here in Barcelona, in front of a packed house on the Rafael Nadal court,” Ruud said. It’s special to me because it’s someone [Nadal] that I observed throughout my youth. It’s a very good feeling. »
Ruud now has his eye on the Roland-Garros tournament, which will take place next month. He was a finalist last year, in one of the three Grand Slam finals that he lost.
The 25-year-old Norwegian ended the 10-game winning streak of Tsitsipas, who was 10-0 on clay this season and seeking a 12th career title. Tsitsipas had lost his three previous finals in Barcelona, in 2018, 2021 and 2023.
