Canada’s women win 13th title

After a high-class final in the eternal duel with the USA, Canada won the Women’s Ice Hockey World Cup for the 13th time. With a goal from Danielle Serdachny in overtime, the Canadians won 6-5 on Sunday in Utica, USA. Particularly bitter for the US team: The goal was scored by Canadians because the hosts had received a two-minute penalty for having too many players on the ice.

With its 13th title, Canada has consolidated its status as a record world champion, while the USA remains with ten titles. Both teams have always faced each other in the final since the first event in 1990, with only one exception (2019). In the final the lead changed back and forth constantly. The outstanding player was Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who scored two goals.
