Caitlin Clark: From College Star to WNBA Sensation

Until now, Caitlin Clark (22) was only known in the jersey of her college team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, for which she played until a few days ago. But now the basketball player, who has already become a superstar in the USA, is getting dressed up for the big step into the women’s NBA (WNBA).

Wearing a chic Prada outfit, Clark walked the red carpet at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, beaming and full of anticipation, where this year’s draft of the best women’s professional league in the world was taking place. Much to the delight of her many fans who had never seen the exceptional player from Iowa like this before.

As expected, Clark was selected first overall and will play for the Indiana Fever in the future. As in many other US sports, the worst teams are allowed to select talent earlier in the draft. Clark will now try to lead Indiana to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

And not only that: audience interest in their new team will also skyrocket. Last season, the Indiana Fever had an average home game attendance of just 4,066 spectators. Damn little considering the capacity of the “Gainbridge Fieldhouse” of 18,000 spectators. Now, however, the hall in the city of Indianapolis is already sold out for the games against Connecticut and Los Angeles.

Clark, the best thrower in the history of college basketball with 3,951 points, mind you across genders, was totally happy after her selection. “I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was in second grade and it took a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs. I always believed in myself. I told my mom beforehand that I earned it, and that’s why I’m so proud of it,” she said on ESPN.

Their starting salary in the WNBA is a joke compared to the men. Including bonuses, Clark will make less than $85,000 per season. For their male colleagues, the minimum salary is $1.1 million. Nevertheless, Clark is already a millionaire. Last season alone she is said to have earned around two million US dollars from advertising deals (including Cornflakes, Gatorade and Nike).
