Burkina Faso Dominates in Inaugural West African Francophone Baseball Tournament hosted by Benin

Benin, through the Beninese Baseball and Softball Federation (Fbbs), hosted from Saturday March 30 to Sunday March 31, 2024, the first competition of the West African Francophone Baseball and Baseball Five Tournament. A meeting which brought together three countries with the coronation of Burkina Faso in front of the host country. For its part, the Fbbs will however have won the organization’s bet.

For this first competition, three countries responded. These are Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin, thus giving a strong signal to the International Francophone Baseball Tournament which over the years will leave its mark. And for this first experience which took place within the walls of the Ceg le Nokoué then at the Mathieu Kérékou stadium in Cotonou, the bet was won by the Fbbs which with its meager resources was able to take up the challenge.

On the field, two events were on the menu, namely Baseball and Baseball Five. And, it was Burkina Faso which won in a double-final ahead of Benin. Togo brings up the rear at the end of the ranking. “I am satisfied with what the players produced. It’s not completely there but we are on the right path,” said Adom Bachira, assistant coach of the national team. She also says she is satisfied with the level of the competition even if, according to her, there is still work to do to reach the top level. “It is already the desire of the Fbbs, to have the national team play with such a tournament, to compare ourselves to others to assess our level. It is the benefit of the merits of this competition which was enriching,” she will conclude. For his part, the president of the Fbbs, Fernando Lavenir Atannon thanked the delegations of Burkina Faso and Togo who honored the competition with their presence. For him, the first objective was achieved on an organizational level. “The rest, with the entire Executive Committee, we will continue the work for the challenges that await us,” he suggested. He stressed that the next meeting, regarding the second edition, will take place in Togo (next year). Remember that Benin, through a club, could in the coming days participate in a regional competition in Nigeria. Outings that will certainly allow players to gain experience.
