Bronny James to Declare for NBA Draft: Following in his Father’s Footsteps

Bronny James, son of basketball legend LeBron James, wants to go to the NBA like his father. The 19-year-old will declare for the draft for the North American professional league, as he wrote on his Instagram account.

During the draft, NBA teams secure the rights to the best young players. At the same time, he also entered the NCAA transfer portal, leaving the option of eligibility to play in college open. He is currently at the University of Southern California.

“I had a year with some ups and downs, but everything made me grow as a person, student and athlete,” wrote the 1.93 meter tall development player. He suffered a cardiac arrest during training in July last year. According to tests, he has a congenital heart defect. Almost five months later, Bronny James was back on the field. Whether he can take part in the draft depends on the NBA’s medical team. James is only allowed to register for the draft after a positive assessment.

His father (39) dreams of one day playing in the NBA with him. LeBron James’ contract with the Los Angeles Lakers runs until the summer of 2025, but “King James” could get out of it next summer and move to another club as a so-called free agent.
