Bronny James’ Chances in the 2024 NBA Draft: A Closer Look

Bronny James is officially available in the 2024 NBA Draft. After his first season in the NCAA con USChe LeBron’s son announced his entry into the Draft – something necessary for all players who do not spend four years at the university level – and could be selected to begin his professional career in 2024-2025.

But What are Bronny’s real chances of being chosen in the Draft? Have you shown yourself worthy of one of those selections so far? We analyze it below.

Bronny James, NBA talent?

Not to mince words on the subject, the truth is that there are only one reason for which Bronny James could be selected in the 2024 Draft: be LeBron’s son and what that could mean, in view of James’ possible departure from the Lakers.

Out of that, There is no reason to justify using a pick on Bronny. At least not today, after his bad season at USC.

Per se, Bronny was never seen as a great NBA project. Not at the level of the best players in his class. However, a good last year in high school – and the strength of his last name, of course – led him to rise in consideration. To the point of being selected for the McDonald’s All-American 2023as, in theory, one of the 24 best exponents of that frankly deficient generation.

However, what had been an apparently rising career was met with a hard reality during the 2023-2024 campaign, already at a competitive level like the Pac-12 Conference of the NCAA.

His USC was one of the major campaign failuresarmed to fight for the title with names like his own Bronny, Isaiah Collier, Boogie Ellis o Kobe Johnson -all seen at the time with NBA future-, but with a marginal performance that left them with a record of 15 wins and 18 losses.

And without blaming James exclusively for that failure, the truth is that Bronny’s performance did not help in the slightest. LeBron’s son averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assistswith really poor percentages: 36% from the field, 26% in triples and 67% in free throws. Even as a shooter in catch and shoot It was below 20% correct. Everything for an athletic 1-2, but Below 1.90m tall and without great skills as a passer or game organizer.

Without being his father, Bronny has athletic ability worthy of an NBA player. And without being a specialist, he also shows a good defensive potential and as a team player -far from being selfish or having sins star-. With training and marked evolution, he could even be seen as deserving of a selection in a future draft. But as of right now, there’s nothing about his game that really stands out…not even at the NCAA level.

The only case where using a pick on Bronny would make sense in 2024 is with the absolute guarantee that James would sign with that team to play with his son. Basically, drafting LeBron Jr. would work like trading a pick as part of a trade for his father. But unless that is the scenario – unlikely, by the way – logic suggests that We will not see young James in the next Draft and that, instead, he will end up removing his name from the group of eligibles and will enroll in a new University, to continue with his necessary development – there is talk of Ohio State or Duquesne.
