Brive beats Colomiers in Pro D2 and maintains its chances of qualifying for the final phase

Severely beaten in Dax (27-10) last week, the Brivistes, 9th in the Pro D2 ranking, absolutely had to win this Thursday evening against Colomiers (who were ahead of them by two points in the ranking) to keep a chance of qualify for the final phase five days from the end of the regular phase.

But it was hard ! After a fanfare start to the match and when they ended up taking the advantage thanks to a fault from Columérin captain Jérémy Béchu (penalty try, 34th, 19-13), who received a yellow card, the Brivists , very undisciplined, were going to lose their lucidity in stoppage time in the first half, after a penalty from Colomiers in their 22 meters.

Three yellow cards in three minutes

In three minutes, they received three yellow cards: Léo Carbonneau first (40+1), Ross Moriarty then, for a clearance in the face of Rodrigo Marta (40+2) and Arthur Bonneval finally, author of an in- voluntary forward (40+3) who offered a penalty try to his opponents. Trailing 20-19, the Brivistes would have to play the first eight minutes of the second period with twelve players.

“We are going to tighten up,” assured third row Mathieu Voisin on Canal+ before returning to the locker room. We dominated almost the entire first half, we will fight and wait for our friends to return. »

Indeed, the men of Pierre-Henry Broncan, who arrived at the end of November at the bedside of the Corrèze team to revive it, held on and did not concede any points before the return of their teammates. It was even Colomiers, following a dangerous tackle from Iese Nu’u, who found himself definitively at 14. Three penalties from Tom Raffy allowed Brive to stay in front (28-23, 67th) before the break in the 74th, thanks to a try from Sadrugu (35-23, 74th).

A victory which leaves Brive, now 7th with 62 points in the standings, the possibility of clinching the final phase while it will be very complicated for Colomiers.
