Breaking Down Barriers: The Impact of the “Madaloni Route” in Carini and Capaci

After Scampia, Sondrio, Vasto and Anagni, the “Madaloni route” also lands in Carini and Capaci thanks to the sports club “Asd judo Cokys club” of maestro Giovanni Cocheo, present in the territory of Carini, Capaci and Isola delle Femmine since 1992. The “Maddaloni path”, which takes its name from Giovanni Maddaloni, coach of judo and father of Marco Maddaloni, 7 times Italian judo champion and with several international titles in his career, is nothing other than a school of life to help young people break down physical, economic and social barriers through a project in which the sport in society, in prisons and above all within disadvantaged families. Through the non-profit association “Yuki” the model created in Naples is being replicated in various Italian cities, creating a network of gyms that can assist children in their human growth, combating delinquency, bullying and even school dropout. In Carini, Maestro Cocheo’s company, which carries out its sporting activity inside the gym of the Laura Lanza Comprehensive Institute, in collaboration with the Social Services of the Municipality of Carini and the school institution itself, has started a social recovery project of some young people from Carina with ongoing criminal proceedings, in order to redeem them from the tunnel of delinquency. A seventeen-year-old in the four hours a week entrusted to the club has thus repainted all the changing rooms of the gym, while other young people in the coming weeks will carry out other activities aimed at always following the same path. “A lot can be done for the recovery of children, we need to create initiatives that become “healthy carriers” of a religion made of sport, discipline, altruism“ highlights Master Cocheo himself – “redeem but not repress, make mistakes but also give the possibility of recovering”.
