The Massachusetts team confirmed Tuesday that it will be without its star player for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. It will take him six months to recover from this injury.

Story was injured April 5 in a game against the Los Angeles Angels while diving to catch a strike from Mike Trout. His shoulder absorbed the shock, which caused a fracture of the glenoid.

The shortstop has struggled to stay healthy since joining the Red Sox in 2022. He only played 43 games last season and 94 the season before.

He is currently in the third year of a six-year contract worth $140 million.

Before joining the Red Sox, Story had some great times in the Colorado Rockies organization. He notably participated in two all-star games in 2018 and 2019.

During his career, Story maintained a .265 batting average and hit 177 home runs.
