Bo Svensson: The Preferred Candidate for FC Red Bull Salzburg?

FC Red Bull Salzburg made headlines with the expulsion of Gerhard Struber. Loud LAOLA1-Information, the series champion then looked into Bo Svensson’s return (read here >>>). In the end, nothing came of the matter. Onur Cinel was introduced as interim coach.

Information from the “Salzburger Nachrichten” now confirms that Svensson was an issue in Salzburg. According to one report, he should have been hired as a firefighter – as reported. A longer-term contract would have been available for the Dane.

The whole thing failed, as they say, but probably because of Svensson’s contract in Mainz. The Dane remains tied there after his resignation in November. A transfer would therefore have been necessary.

Nevertheless: The 44-year-old should still be the preferred candidate for the summer. An agreement would mean a comeback.

Bo Svensson not only knows Salzburg, but also the competition

Between 2019 and January 2021, Bo Svensson not only coached the cooperation club FC Liefering, but was also responsible for the Salzburg youth league team. Kickers like Karim Adeyemi, Nicolas Seiwald and Benjamin Sesko matured under him.

With Luka Sucic, Maurits Kjaergaard, Amar Dedic and Bryan Okoh, he had several kickers from the current Salzburg squad under his wing.

He not only knows the “bull” stable very well, but also the competition. Title rivals Sturm Graz have three ex-Svensson protégés from Liefering’s time in the squad: David Affengruber, Alexander Prass and Jusuf Gazibegovic. If Sturm II kicker Nikola Stosic is included, there are even four.

With Adam Stejskal (WSG Tirol), Fabian Windhager (Blau-Weiß Linz), Lukas Ibertsberger (WAC), Mamadou Sangare (Hartberg), Elias Havel (LASK) and Tobias Berger (Austria Lustenau) he also coached other kickers from the Liefering ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
