After the second championship in a row, the men’s team of Badminton Club Hoevelaken was automatically qualified for the semi-finals of the National Championships in distant Roermond. In the Men Veer-2 class, BCH had to compete against other regional champions from the same class, with the aim of achieving a place in the finals at the end of June in Zutphen. BCH had to compete against LUSV Badminton from Leiden in the morning and against Lekkerkerk BC at 3:30 PM. The winners from three groups and the best runners-up would qualify for the final day. Regular players Bart and Erik were unfortunately absent, so substitute Jeffry joined Roy, Kees and Christiaan.

BCH started well and put LUSV 2-0 behind thanks to wins from Roy and Jeffry. Unfortunately, Kees lost his singles match, so the two final doubles matches would determine who would walk away with the win. Both games were won by BCH, and people could watch the confrontation between LUSV and Ridderkerk in peace. Ridderkerk won this match 4-1, just like BCH.

The final match was an absolute cracker, which unfortunately ended 4-1 in favor of Ridderkerk. Roy lost his singles match 29-27 in the third set. Jeffry and Kees also lost in a three-setter. In the doubles matches, the win went once to BCH and once to Ridderkerk, again all three-setters. “Driesetters” was the common thread in this group anyway. Of the 15 games, 12 were only decided after playing a third set. The mutual difference in strength was therefore minimal. Unfortunately, BCH was unable to qualify for the final day, just like last year. However, the team can look back on a successful season and will compete in the Men’s Veer-1 class next season; the highest class for men’s teams of Badminton Netherlands.
