Leverkusen national player Florian Wirtz is considered one of the greatest talents in football. He is accordingly sought after. But a change in the summer is out of the question, says someone who should know.

According to managing director Fernando Carro, national player Florian Wirtz will remain at Bayer Leverkusen this summer “with 100 percent certainty.” Carro told Spanish radio station Onda Cero. “The fact that Xabi Alonso is staying is an additional incentive,” the Spaniard added in the interview published on Easter Sunday.

Coach Alonso announced on Friday that he wanted to stay at Bayer despite presumably numerous offers from top clubs. After Saturday’s 2-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim, Leverkusen is on the verge of winning the German championship.

The management wants to keep a large part of the squad and definitely prevent Leverkusen from having to compensate for many departures like in 2001 and 2002, said Carro, who is expecting lucrative offers. Carro stated that the goal was for the team to establish itself among the 16 best clubs in Europe and play in the Champions League.

Carro talks about the Havertz change

Regarding the title prospects in the Bundesliga, the Spaniard said that the team was playing “a very good season”, also thanks to coach Alonso. “It couldn’t have gone better,” Carro said. He wasn’t worried about his compatriot’s whereabouts. The relationship with him is very trusting. “He can choose the team,” said Carro.

In the interview, Carro also spoke about the sale of national player Kai Havertz: He confirmed that Leverkusen initially wanted to sell the offensive player to Real Madrid for 80 million euros, but the Spanish top club replied that they could not afford it due to their financial situation could. “I tried to convince Kai to wait,” Carro told the radio station. But Havertz’s ambition was one of the reasons for his decision to finally sign with Chelsea in 2020. Havertz now plays for Arsenal FC.
