The Niners Chemnitz achieved a historic success. In the hot atmosphere of Istanbul, the Saxons held their nerve and secured the first European Cup win in the club’s history. But the Saxons had to go into extra time.
The Niners Chemnitz have secured the FIBA Europe Cup. In the second leg at Bahcesehir College in Istanbul, coach Rodrigo Pastore’s team lost 95:105 after overtime, after the Niners had already won the first game in Saxony 85:74.
The FIBA Europe Cup goes to Chemnitz.

Istanbul pulls away in the second quarter
In the cauldron of Istanbul, the Niners initially remained ice cold and were mostly in the front in a very even first quarter. After ten minutes the score was 19:18 for the guests. But suddenly Bahcesehir woke up, the hosts hit almost every shot, while the basket seemed to be nailed down for the Niners. Istanbul pulled ahead to 55:38 by the break.

Strong comeback, but Bahcesehir hits back – crazy extra time
But head coach Rodrigo Pastore found the right words in the dressing room. The Niners bit back into the game and came closer point by point. After 26 minutes it was only 58:63, with a 67:67 going into the last quarter. And it became more and more quiet in the hall, Chemnitz pulled away to 73:70 (33rd), only having a lead of 14 points in the first leg. But Bahcesehir was not yet beaten and suddenly pulled away to 91:84. And with 38 seconds left, the overall lead dwindled to just two points at 93:84. Suddenly the Niners’ knees wobbled, Istanbul made it 95:84. It went into overtime. And there the hosts initially pulled away. But the Niners proved to be tough and, with a bit of luck, secured the pot by the narrowest of margins.
In addition to 150 fans, there was also great support from fellow Niners players.
