It’s starting again for the “Boys of Summer”: In the Baseball Bundesliga, the Hard Bulls will meet the Dornbirn Indians on Saturday,

Today, Saturday, the Baseball Bundesliga starts with a special treat for the Vorarlberg fans. The Hard Bulls and the Dornbirn Indians meet for the first time in the Ballpark am See and open the season.

The season opener is celebrated under the special motto “Volunteering”. To recognize the important role of voluntary work, the Hard Bulls invite all visitors who do voluntary work in their free time and wear the colors of their club to the derby with free entry. In addition, every volunteer receives a free drink and after the game you can look forward to an after-party.

The Dornbirn Indians team

Founding story

In the fall of 1990, enthusiastic baseball players came together and, after overcoming all official hurdles and securing sponsors, officially founded a club. In the spring of 1991 they were accepted into the Austrian Baseball and Softball Association as the “Dornbirn Indians”. The name “Indians” was inspired by the then popular film “The Indians of Cleveland”.

The Hard Bulls were also founded in 1991. Since then, the club has pursued ambitious goals on both a sporting and social level. The Hard Bulls strive to establish themselves as one of the leading teams in the Baseball Bundesliga in the long term. An essential part of their strategy is the continuous training of young talent.

Facts and successes of the Hard Bulls

Foundation and infrastructure:

  • Founding year: 1991

  • Playing areas: The Hard Bulls have a main field as well as an additional junior and softball field.
  • Total playing area: 17.000 m²
  • Home games: Almost 100 home events take place each season, making the facility a lively place for sporting activity.
  • State champion: The Hard Bulls became state champions in 2001.
  • Europacup B-Pool: In 2002 they won the European Cup B-Pool.
  • Second Bundesliga: The club has won several championship titles in the 2nd Bundesliga.
  • Junior area: The continuous training of young talents regularly leads to top placements in the youth sector.

Successes of the Dornbirn Indians

The Dornbirn Indians have achieved an impressive list of sporting successes over the years, establishing them as one of the leading forces in Austrian baseball.

  • 1991: Winning the Vorarlberg regional league.
  • 1998: Victory in the 2nd Bundesliga West and promotion to the Austrian Baseball League (ABL).
  • 1999 & 2003: Achieving the title of Austrian national champion.
  • 2002: First place in Cupwinners Cup – Pool B.
  • 2011: Victory in the Baseball Bundesliga and renewed promotion to the ABL.
  • 2013: Austrian U15 national champion, which underlines the club’s successful youth work.
  • 2014 & 2018: Achievement of the title of Austrian Vice-National Champion.
  • 2019: Repeating the success as Austrian national champion.
