[OSEN=정승우 기자] The badminton women’s doubles team of Baek Ha-na (MG Saemaeul Geumgo) and Lee So-hee (Incheon International Airport) became the first Korean player to reach the top of the Asian Championships in 19 years.

The pair of Baek Hana and Lee Sohee defeated China’s Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu (world No. 7) 2-0 (23-21 21-12) in the women’s doubles final of the tournament held in Ningbo, China, on the 14th. By winning the last competition to accumulate ranking points for participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics, she announced the start of her journey toward an Olympic medal.

With the victory of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee, who are ranked second in the world, they became the first Korean players to reach the top in 19 years. This is the first time since the pair of Lee Gyeong-won and Lee Hyo-jeong in 2005 that they won the women’s doubles event in this competition.

It wasn’t easy. It was a close match from the first set all the way to deuce. The team of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee maintained their defensive concentration until the last minute despite an endless rally battle and took the first game.

The second game was won rather easily. Because of the close battle in the first game, the Zhang Shuxian-Zheng Wei team made many mistakes due to low stamina. The team of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee achieved victory after calmly accumulating points without missing any gaps. /[email protected]
